Finns are the fourth most inventors in Europe

Finns are a nation of inventors. Our working life is full of practical “inventors” who want to do things themselves and in their own way, but better than anyone else before them. Different villages and cottages have countless solutions for different practical challenges. Sometimes this means reinventing the wheel, but sometimes we have a product in our hands that has the potential to become a major innovation that changes an industry or even the whole world.

In 2023, Finland ranked fourth in European statistics when comparing the number of patent applications in relation to the country's population (number of patents per million inhabitants).

Many devils in the background

Many inventors have accumulated a broad knowledge and skills base over years, or even decades, of working life. Experience in different fields and jobs has shaped their thinking and given them the ability to recognize opportunities where others see problems. At Brione, we have also worked on hundreds, even thousands, of different inventions over the decades. In product development projects, we often see solutions to different challenges because we have solved similar problems with other products.

Inventions are often based on attempts and failures, and sometimes even on the devil being called.

Ideas for inventions are not usually born in sterile offices or laboratories, but in the midst of practical challenges, when the inventor is faced with a problem that needs a solution. One inventor said that his innovation began at his summer cottage, when he was trying to fix a broken Kärcher pressure washer. After a couple of beers, he had an idea that eventually led to the creation of a completely new product. We believe that it is not entirely unusual that the best ideas are born outside the office.

From idea to production is too long. We'll make it shorter.

Although we Finns are a creative "do-it-yourself" nation, it usually takes a long time from an idea to a commercial innovation. Although we are fourth in the number of patents, we have noticed that inventors need help and partnership if an idea is to ever really reach the market. Very few ideas become anything at all. We believe that part of the reason for this is the lack of the right partners. When we work together, we usually get further.

Our collaborations often deepen quickly, and we can take responsibility for the entire design process, which allows for continuous product development and prototyping. This process has been a crucial factor in the growth of many of our customers and their faster time to market. This type of collaboration not only helps our customers, but also gives us the opportunity to be part of changing the world for the better.

Example of an invention

One of the inventions we have worked on is related to water. Water is one of the world's most valuable resources, and innovations related to saving it are critically important in various industrial sectors. We have been able to work on an invention that could revolutionize water use in industrial processes. It is a technology that enables more efficient use of water and other liquids in various applications. This innovation not only reduces water consumption, but also offers sustainable solutions on a large scale. It is especially rewarding to be involved in bringing Finnish inventions to the world that make our environment more sustainable.
